Where the idea came from
Inspired by Tim Ferriss
Before you learn a language, take it apart. A few well-chosen sentences show you how it works. That idea runs through every LingoRhythm lesson.
A short introduction
Who is Tim Ferriss?
Tim Ferriss, born in 1977, is an American author, investor and podcaster. He became widely known in 2007 with his bestseller The 4-Hour Workweek. At Princeton he studied East Asian studies and explored language acquisition. Today he looks for the shortest route to learning a skill and discusses it on his podcast The Tim Ferriss Show.
🍎 An unlikely connection
In a 2007 blog post, Ferriss showed how to deconstruct a language in an hour before trying to memorise it. His first test sentence was “The apple is red.” That is where our apple comes from: comer una manzana.
His method
Four steps to learning faster
In his book The 4-Hour Chef (2012), Ferriss describes a system for learning almost any skill faster. Here is how LingoRhythm uses its four steps.
- 1DeconstructWhat are the smallest building blocks? We start with 12 key sentences in Lesson 00, then focus on one tense per lesson.
- 2SelectWhich 20% give you 80% of the result? We use one verb, regular forms only, and two pronouns (él, ellas) in place of six.
- 3SequenceWhat comes first? Our lessons have seven parts in the same order. We begin in the present, then work through the past and future step by step.
- 4StakesWhat keeps you going? Ferriss often suggests putting something real at stake, such as money you might lose. We take a different approach: a short, pressure-free review after 1, 3 and 7 days.
Efficiency
The smallest dose that works
Ferriss asks how little you can do and still get a result. He calls this the minimum effective dose. LingoRhythm is built on that idea.
- One sentence for every tense. There is no extra vocabulary to learn along the way.
- Only the ending changes. You can focus on that single change.
- Ten minutes per lesson is enough. Short, regular sessions rather than one long stretch.
